In the past year I have been challenged to be a part of a group of two or three women who meet to read the Bible. We meet once a week for about an hour. We have read through James, Philippians, and Colossians. It has been a joy to make new friends and study the scriptures together. I was a little nervous at first. I thought to myself, “I am no theologian. What if I say something wrong? I don’t know as much as that woman does.” Those insecurities were from Satan. He doesn’t want us to know the scriptures. He doesn’t want us to form community with other believers. He doesn’t want us to encourage others or be held accountable in our walk with the Lord. We are told in scripture to study the word so that we will know the truth.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
There are so many voices that speak to us everyday, which is why it’s so important that we know what the scriptures say about how to live and love like Christ.
Colossians 2:8 (ESV) "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ."
We can encourage one another with the very words that the early believers heard about persevering through hard times. We truly need one another. I would encourage you to find a few people to read the scriptures with you. You will be blessed and learn so much.
