Truth

Posted by Jarod Grimes on

This age comprises people who deny God and His Word because they say they do not believe in absolute truth. Psalm 119:160 says, “The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” Jesus questions the Jews about their unbelief, saying, “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me... And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe in Me?” The Bible is clear about the truth of Jesus being the savior of the world. In a postmodern world, the study of God’s Word is much needed. People need to know the God of the Bible and hear the good news that Jesus died to save sinners.

In an age that accepts everchanging ideas as “truth,” they need to be taught that God is unchanging and His Word is ageless. John MacArthur sums it up nicely as he states, “Here is a simple definition drawn from what the Bible teaches: TRUTH is that which is consistent with the mind, will, character, glory, and being of God. Even more to the point: Truth is the self-expression of God.” No amount of misinterpretation, skepticism, or denial can cause the Bible to change. Men may try to twist Scripture and deny what God says in His Word, but Romans confirms God will always be true, “Indeed, let God be true and every man a liar” (Romans 3:4). The authority of Scripture teaches us that the entire Bible is God’s words, so if individuals dispute or disagree with any of it, they are disbelieving and being disobedient to God.

We need the truth of God’s Word to permeate every aspect of our lives. We study the Bible to spend time with God, see how He commands us to live and understand how we are supposed to believe so that it can change our hearts and be put into action. We need our hearts changed daily! The Holy Spirit works through the Word to transform our hearts and make us walk more like Christ. When hearts are changed by the Gospel, this world will see something real and different in the Christian life and be drawn to it. When we spend time in God’s Word, He begins to transform our lives, which increases love and faith in Jesus Christ and causes us to be obedient to Him. A considerable part of that obedience is serving others and sharing the love of Christ with them. As you gather around family this holiday season, be aware of the opportunities you have to share the good news of Jesus with those you love. The most loving thing we can do is share how a person can have eternal life in Jesus!
