VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. What thoughts and memories come to your mind when you hear those three words? Bible stories? Stories of missionaries? Certain songs? Crafts? Cookies and Koolaid? Red Rover Red Rover? The Farmer in the Dell? (I know, I know, I’m showing my age!!) As a child, our VBS was two weeks long, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I learned so many Bible verses and loved the stories. I still have a button box made from an oatmeal box in VBS. That thing has been an antique for longer than I care to remember.
This week is VBS at Woodmont and if you aren’t here to see the happy faces, hear the joy, and feel the excitement, I wish you could be. Woodmont’s mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ from all generations that will make disciples of all nations in all generations for God’s glory. VBS is one special way our mission is being carried out. Jesus said in Mark 10:14-15, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (CSB) This week, people of different generations are bringing children to Jesus as seeds are being planted in their minds. Be in prayer that these seeds will result in children one day coming to know Christ as their Savior and that this will flow over into family members who may be lost. What an opportunity to share the gospel not only with our church family, but also with our community who may not attend church or have a personal relationship with Jesus. Please pray for each child, each family represented, and each teacher and volunteer who is a part of VBS. And for a pastor who cares enough about this generation to dress up with a black beard and glasses, carry a shovel, and dig deep into God’s Word to plant seeds in the fertile soil of these little minds.
