Vacation Bible School is just 5 days away. Typically this week would consist of last minute decorations, every little detail set just right to ensure kids feel the FUN. You may be wondering. . . why?
Why the decorating?
Why the effort?
Why the budget?
Why the whole week?
Why are you trying to pull this off in digital format?
I'm glad to share my "why."
It brings the church together. Through VBS, we are able to involve roughly 100 volunteers of all generations most years.
It's an outreach event. Many families will join us for what seems like FUN. They may not know the Lord, but hopefully they know that kids who are here for VBS will feel the Lord's love, will be called by name and cherished, and will be fed snacks and the Word. Through VBS, we make contact with our unchurched neighbors.
It's a Gospel opportunity. We can "good news" our people. Children who attend VBS hear the Gospel truth from the Bible at least 5 times each day with a concentrated opportunity to respond on Wednesday.
It's my story. June 20, 2000. . . I was having FUN, but I can't even recall the "FUN theme" of VBS that year. What I recall. . .Pam Wright patiently leading us in a Gospel presentation with a time of response. The Holy Spirit had been convicting me of my sin and drawing me into His presence and it was in that B building classroom that I prayed and admitted my sin, confessed with my mouth that Jesus was Lord and believed in my heart that God raised him from the dead. It was in the WBC gym that I ran to my youth siblings and then my mom at pick up time to tell them of my decision. It's serving at VBS that drew me to a summer internship that led to a call to ministry.
VBS 2020 is online but worth it...June 22 - 26. We still need volunteers to pray for kids by name. We still need kids to register. At this time we have roughly 75 kids enlisted. Please join us online, it's worth it!
