Frequently Asked Questions

I saw the video in worship about a new “Generations Project.” What is this all about?
This is a project being proposed by the church’s Future Connections Team after seeking the Lord in prayer. This project will involve a renovation at the East Campus and the raising of funds to pay for the project. This project came as a recommendation from the Future Connections Team and was affirmed unanimously by the Woodmont Deacons and the Woodmont Stewardship Team.
Why are we looking at a renovation of the East Campus?
We are out of space to make disciples! During the past 4-5 years Woodmont has experienced tremendous growth by God’s blessing.  All our classrooms on the main campus are filled on Sunday morning during our Bible Study Connections hour. We have 3 adult BSC classes currently meeting in areas of the East Campus that are not optimal for a BSC Class. We have 4-5 of our current adult classes that have grown so large that there is little to no room for guests to join those classes. These classes are ready to birth new ones. Our students (7-12 grade) that meet at the East Campus for Bible Study Connections are continuing to grow and will need new space soon.
Can we just move more classes to the East Campus in its current state?
Unfortunately, the usable spaces at the East Campus are either already in use or unsuitable in their current conditions for Bible Study Connections classes to use.
Aren’t there other options at the Main Campus for adding additional classrooms?
The Future Connections Team has prayerfully explored many options to create space during the last 15-18 months. A few of these options were adding a third floor to the “B” Building, converting the existing “Activities Center” (Gym) into classrooms, renovating the East Campus to make a “Children’s Campus”, or possibly building an entirely new educational building. These options were dismissed for various reasons, including disruption to the current use of the building, the age of certain areas of the building, the structural issues for creating space in certain areas, and the overall costs.
What will this proposed renovation project look like once it is completed?
The project proposal is to renovate the East Campus Worship Center and restrooms. This will involve removing all the pews, pouring concrete to move from a sloped floor to a flat floor, building walls to initially create 10 classrooms of various sizes, and creating an auditorium space that will seat 200-250 persons. We will also renovate the restrooms on the Worship Center end of the East Campus to make them handicapped accessible.  We also will freshen up other areas of the East Campus to make it a more conducive location for disciple making.
What will this auditorium be used for?
With a level floor this area can be able to be used for training events, conferences, seminars, and to give Woodmont Students a more permanent home. With Woodmont Students using this area for their gatherings, the “Big Room” will be open and more readily available for events and churchwide fellowships.
What happens when we fill up these 10 new rooms?
Several things can happen at that time. The new East Campus auditorium can be incrementally converted into up to six additional classrooms. The church may also at some future point elect to build another building where the “Big Room” and the older section of the East Campus are currently located. The church, in the future, may also decide to invest in a new building at the Main Campus. This current proposed renovation does not in any way limit any future planning by the church.
What will we be voting on at the April 30 church conference at 6:00 p.m.?
Woodmont will vote that day on the proposal made by the Future Connections Team and unanimously affirmed by the Deacon Body and Stewardship Team. This proposal states, “The Future Connections Team recommends that Woodmont Baptist Church begins the process of moving forward with additional detailed planning for renovation of the East Campus Worship Center to create additional Educational Space and begin raising funds.” The proposal will be made, and there will be a time for discussion prior to the vote at that meeting.
How much will this renovation cost?
We do not currently have exact figures because the church has not yet authorized the team to move forward with the firm planning of the project. We do, however, have initial budgetary estimates. These estimates are that the costs to do this renovation will be somewhere between $850,000 and $950,000.
That’s a lot of money; wouldn’t it be less expensive to just build a new building?
With current construction costs, the estimated costs to build an entire new building to house a similar number of classrooms would be $5 to $6 million.
How will Woodmont pay for this?
Woodmont is currently debt free. God has led this team throughout this process and the team believes that the plan they are proposing developed out of much prayer and seeking the Lord’s face for the appropriate vision to accommodate the growth we are experiencing. Brother Chad’s vision is that we continue to lay this vision before the Lord. Each family and each individual should bathe this proposal in prayer. We will place this need in the Lord’s hands and trust Him to provide whatever funds are needed. God has blessed this church financially over the past several years. The church has more than $250,000 in available funds today to put toward this project. Bro. Chad would like for us all to pray about the project and decide what each family can give toward the project. We will have a “Generations Celebration Day” in early November where will all bring our gifts for this project on that Sunday.
What will happen after the “Generations Celebration Day?”
After this day the church will vote to proceed with the construction phase of the project. A goal would be to begin construction in January 2026.
How can I help with this project?
Most importantly, you can pray. Over the next several months, the Future Connections Team will give you prayer prompts at various times so that we are corporately praying for the project. Next, you can pray that God will lead you and your family to give sacrificially toward this project.
How can I get more information about the project?
Information will be shared from time to time about the project through our normal communications channels. You may also direct your questions to members of the Woodmont church staff. Jay and Nancy Woods, as Co-Captains of the Future Connections Team, can also answer many of your questions or point you to other team members that may be better suited to answer specific questions.
