Table Talk – Breastplate of Righteousness—Ephesians 6:10-14

1. Righteousness has been defined as: “The state of being just or morally pure, whether in one’s own strength or on the basis of imputed virtue” (The Concise Dictionary of Christian Theology). Based on this definition, how does the Bible communicate the state of

1) a person’s selfrighteousness,
2) a person’s need for righteousness, 3) and a believer’s
righteousness in Jesus Christ?

2. In your own words, explain the relationship and significance of righteousness being described as a breastplate. Why is it important to remember that the armor is provided by God and not something we possess within ourselves?

3. How does Satan attack us in the area of righteousness? How does understanding our righteousness in Christ help us to stand firm against the Enemy’s attack?

4. Hebrews 10:14 declares, “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” In this verse a believer is declared righteous (made perfect) and also being sanctified (being made holy). Explain the importance of understanding that we have been equipped in the breastplate of righteousness but are still being sanctified. How does this understanding help believers know their need for grace but also extend grace?
